8. Melbourne & Canberra

After spending a few calm days in Auckland and exploring the city, unfortunately, the weather wasn’t perfect, but it was okay! This morning, I woke up to a fire alarm at 8 am—a lively wake-up, or rather, a musical one! I had to go down 11 floors of the hotel only to see people taking the elevator up… but it was a good way to wake up fresh for the day! After 45 minutes of checks at Melbourne Airport (including flu checks, food checks, identity checks, and more), I’m back at the YHA Metro Melbourne for the next few days!

This morning, I set off for one of the most beautiful roads in the world! Well, it certainly is… what I saw was water, clouds, and I managed to flood my eyes and my underwear at the same time due to the heavy rain! It was quite funny—I met a girl who gave me lots of information about Hong Kong, and we had a brief sunny window of 5 minutes to take some photos! This weekend: Relaxation and lounging around in Melbourne.

After a few relaxing days in Melbourne, I finally arrived in the Australian capital after 5 months in Australia! The 50-minute flight was so quick—I didn’t even have time to turn on my iPod before having to turn it off for descent! The city seems to be in the middle of nowhere! I was warmly welcomed by Raffy (who is my aunt’s sister) at the airport. We went to a hill to enjoy the city view—really beautiful city, very linear and aligned! Later, we went to Raffy’s home in the Cook suburb, where I was warmly received! In the evening, we had a great barbecue with kangaroo meat. Today, after cleaning my bag (where my shaving foam literally exploded inside—for the second time, the first being my first day in Australia, lol), I took the bus to the city (Civic) and did a lot of walking up to the government hill—lots of beautiful national monuments! It truly feels like a capital city—many flags, artificial lakes, and well-manicured lawns. I visited the new government house and even the Swiss embassy, which is right behind it! In the evening, we went to a restaurant to celebrate Raffy’s birthday! :oP

I’ve been visiting Canberra for a few days now, staying with Raffy. I even visited a high school here! I’ve been to museums (a rare occurrence for me)—the War Memorial Museum and the new government house. Today, I strolled through the embassy district—the US embassy is quite impressive! Raffy treated me to a ‘tranche au fromage’ (melted cheese on bread)—it’s been a while since I’ve had that! And tonight, we’re having Chinese fondue for my last night here! Tomorrow, I depart for my city! :oP
